The Shining is lol so good.
The Shining is Lol So Good.
One of my favorite movies is The Shining. I've seen it a bunch of times but a couple times when I was younger. Believe it or not I'd actually fall asleep to any horror movie that was on cable, under the “On Demand” section. We had a lot of channels.
Around 9 or 10 years old I really watched all the classics, Friday the 13th, Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacres, all that shit. And one day I saw The Shining there. Now, I had heard of the movie and knew about “Here's Johnny” but I was still curious about it, it was long, and I heard people hated it at first.
So I laid down, got under my blanket and watched a landscape for what felt like 30 minutes during the most evil music. You know how when the world ends they say there will be trumpets? That's what the intro music sounded like.
The moment I finished the movie and said “Huh, yeah that was sick.” And I went to bed and didn't think about it. Then years later, like 6-7 years later, I watched the movie again and my brain unlocked. Immediately after watching the movie I went after every theory video I could come across on the internet.
I like this one a lot by Joe Girard.
Then after spending 2 days watching everything I could watch about the shining, I didn't watch the movie for another 1-2 years.
But when I did, that's when my brain opened up, but again. I'm under the impression that Kubrick is a genius, some say he had an IQ of like, a fuck ton and I thought “He's on another level, then.”
I had also seen a couple others of his movies, mainly the big ones everybody has seen but it does help you understand that yes, he's on another level.
In the video Joe Girard made, he points out that a bunch of random books or paintings just laying around on set, happen to reflect the story in varying levels of ways. A lot actually has to do with the minotaur, which ends up being pretty relevant by the end of the movie, given the maze and all that.
The movie has a bunch of things that can easily be errors, but given the way the movie plays out, it somehow fits into the picture and makes you even more curious. A random light switch disappears by the beginning and end of the movie.
Missing evil lightswitch
It's a long ass movie but holy shit if you really get into theories and overthinking movies then this is a wonderful movie to go with. It also has some tits right before the one chick turns into a zombie ghost, I don't like zombie tits.
I really couldn't care less about Doctor Sleep or the book by Stephen King. I just like this movie and I'm perfectly fine with never expanding my knowledge on the lore of a haunted hotel story beyond what the movie gives me. Despite its potential flaws, I think it's perfect… Also fuck The Shining Mini Series that's like 4 hours long
.
The Shining is a 10/10.
