The Boys Season 5

The Boys is now meh, thanks to season 5.

I'll admit, I had high hopes. After season 4 was mostly filler (AKA an emotional arc season) I was thinking “Oh man they're doing this now so next season will be all gas no brakes!”

Season 5 had a lot of brakes. It probably took until episode 6 where it felt like things were finally happening. I know how this sounds, I just wanted a bunch of noise and bright lights, well, yes, but also no.

It took very few risks, in fact, the only risks they did take were only made because it's even RISKIER to have no risks. But now that I look back on the show, did it ever even take risks in the first place?

Other than progressing penis CGI (which had already been mastered by FNAF Fan Animators) the show never really did stuff that was all that risky. I mean, it didn't even TRY to progress pussy CGI, which honestly could need some progress.

The show and its fanbase hails it for the shock value but really, the shock comes from gore, not things like clever writing and plot twists. That's not impressive at all, it's an Amazon show, Amazon has money, of course they can do good gore.

It reminds me of when people would praise the Star Wars Sequels for CGI. Like, yeah that's a bare minimum with a budget like that.

The entire show was building up to this one episode, and it didn't blow it, it just… was fine. I think it's because throughout the season I was losing my flame for the show but MAN, that shit was just alright.

Nobody is going to write 4 hour long video essays on this season once the initial wave of attention is over. I STILL see videos about Stranger Things and that disaster of a finale, but give it a few months, and I don't think people will be ranting or raving about The Boys very much.

We’ve been watching The Boys for 7 years and… I feel nothing that it's over. I finished Mad Men a couple days ago and I miss it already. I've been wanting to rewatch the Wire and I only finished it a month ago, and I'm on season 3 of my 4th Sopranos rewatch. Yet I have 0 urge to watch The Boys again. It's not out of anger, it's out of the lack of anything.

I hate-watch Euphoria, I'm rewatching 13 Reasons Why, I want to start Gossip Girl, and still, I do not care about The Boys. This isn't out of love or hate is what I'm trying to say, it's something between disappointment and like, feeling content.

The Boys is just a show, it's not something you watch and go “Holy shit… I get it now…” and I think I deep down knew that, it's just a show, and despite seeing all of it, after that finale, I don't really care, one way or another.

The Boys is a 6/10.
